Sustainability Action Fund- Student at Large Member - Board of Directors

Job Description:

The CSU is looking for one undergraduate student at large with a dedicated passion to increase sustainability on campus, to sit on the Board of Directors of the Sustainability Action Fund alongside the Sustainability Coordinator of the CSU.

Mission Statement: As youth and global citizens, Concordia University students are striving to ensure that our common future will be a prosperous one. We seek to better ecological and social systems by allocating resources to sustainable development at Concordia, with the aspiration of our actions in Montreal resounding globally.

History: The Sustainability Action Fund was founded through the 1% Campaign at the Less Talk, More Action Youth Summit held in March 2007. At this event, Dr. David Suzuki and former United States Vice-President Mr. Al Gore galvanized the crowd of over 2000 Concordia students to vote ‘yes’ on a referendum question that sought to transform Concordia into one of the most sustainable campuses in Canada. Through this referendum, the Sustainability Action Fund was born.

Since its beginning, the Action Fund has given out $400,000 towards student projects that encourage a sustainable cultural shift throughout the Concordia Community.

The Sustainability Action Fund is governed by a board of directors, which is made up of representatives from across all faculties, including both graduate and undergraduate members.

Responsibilities:

The SAF Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing all operations of the organization as well approving project funding for sustainable initiatives on campus. The Board meets once per month, in addition each director is expected to sit on at least one committee which also meet once per month.

 

Assets:

A strong passion for sustainability, and the development of sustainable projects here on campus. Previous experience working on a sustainability initiative here on campus.
